Now what?

Now that the cafeteria challenge is officially over, as of 7:00 pm tonight, we will be moving forward in addressing student concerns with the cafeteria food. Comments will continue to be posted in the last blog post as cabinet members send in their final observations.

NEXT Wednesday (after Fall Fest) October 13th at 7:00 pm we will have a Student Senate meeting where we will discuss student concerns that we feel are high priorities for the year. You can guarantee that the cafeteria will be at the top of this list. If you would like to voice your personal concerns, please feel free to come to this meeting and let us know. If you have personal concerns with the cafeteria still, post comments on the observations we have posted so far. We need feedback (positive and negative) in order to create a change that students want.

  1. A lot of the blogs from the administration comment on the food tasting just fine... but a lot of my beef with the cafeteria isn't that the food doesn't taste good, but that its hard to eat healthily there. You can make anything taste good with enough butter and cream... but it would be beneficial to have fresh and ripe fruit... Everyday!

  2. I completely agree with the nutrition concern. I think the tater tots TASTE just fine, but loading up on starches doesn't help my alertness or performance in class, or in sports. I'd like to see a healthy balance of nutritious options.
It seems like some of the administrative participants agree, check out this comment from yesterday, he specifically addresses FRUIT options:

    Sunday, Oct 3rd, Breakfast
"Ah, the meal. I wasn’t expecting much, which was good, because there wasn’t much. It’s listed, of course, as a “continental breakfast.” I asked some folks at church what the phrase “continental breakfast” implies for them. I got responses like “Danish,” “croissants,” “fresh rolls.” No such luck. Same bread and bagels as one would find every day. Even more frustrating, however, was the lack of choice in toppings. No cream cheese, no jams or jellies except grape, no honey. Just butter (margarine), peanut butter, and grape jelly.

Decided to eat some cereal. Skim milk was empty L. And why no sweetener in the vicinity of the cereal? Why no plates by the bread? One gets the impression of an absolutely minimal commitment to customer service. As long as the customer can find what he/she needs somewhere, no need to make it convenient for him/her.

And speaking of fresh fruit……. How about some cantaloupe, honeydew, watermelon, grapes, pears, kiwi, etc., etc.?? Nothing but apples and oranges and occasionally bananas."
